About
I'm Ren. I work a desk job and spend most early mornings outside, usually somewhere wet. This site started as a way to keep my field notebooks searchable and turned into something I post to every few weeks.
I'm an amateur. I've been birding seriously for about six years and tide pooling for longer than that, but I still get gulls wrong and I'm only starting on lichens. If you spot a misidentification, I'd genuinely like to know.
How the notes are made
Pencil and a waterproof pocket notebook in the field, typed up at the weekend. The method is written up in A notebook system that finally stuck. Counts are my own unless a post says otherwise.
Elsewhere
I submit checklists to the usual citizen-science databases and help with the spring and autumn swift counts. There's no newsletter; the RSS feed is the way to follow along.
